Our Story
Nohelia & I met each other in June of 2004. I was DJing at Cafe Salsa in Old Towne Alexandria and she walked in! Being a slow night I was pretty impressed to say the least! "She was the most beauitful women I had ever met." At that moment I thought to myself, "I need to dance with her."
As the DJ that night I needed to well DJ! But I had an advantage I could control the music. So whenever a Spanish guy asked her to dance, I played American
Music and whenver an American Guy asked her to dance I played Latin Music. It was brillant. So I asked her to dance and she said, "NO!" So I did what any smart guy would do, I danced with her friend. I can tell her friend was impressed, so I asked Nohelia again and she said, "No!" Then I figured let me buy her a drink. A Patron Margarita on the Rocks!. She took the drink "a good start" yet, what women refuses a free drink.
So then I played a Bachata set. Now Bachata was my "Secret Weapon" its passoniate, and with the right moves you can really impress the ladies, especially if your not Latin they are not expecting much. So finally I asked, "do you want to dance a Bachata." She replied, "I hate Bachata." And then I said the coolest line any "White Guy" could say, "Well thats because you have never danced Bachata with me." So I grabbed her hand and she followed.
I did all of my moves to try to impress her. And then the song was coming to an end. Now being a DJ and Bachatero I picked a song I knew all the climaxes too, no pun intended... At the last moment , I did a move I later named, "Rock My World." In which I turned her in realy quickly with a swift arm locking motion. In less then three seconds, our lips were less then an inch apart. But even though she was expecting the kiss, I spun her back out and thanked her walking off the dance floor feeling like the luckiest man in the World.
I left her a message that night at 3am just to make sure she made it home okay. Now she is thinking "this guy didn't kiss me and now he is calling me at 3am to make sure I am okay, he must be crazy." It was working... That week my sister was graduating from High School and my present I bought her was flying up her favorite Uncle from West Palm Beach and then giving her a surprise vacation . I would was going as well, so the second night I went out with Nohelia I asked her if I could see her licenses to see her picture and I bought her a ticket to come to West Palm Beach. She said yes and we have been dancing beautiful Bachata ever since....

Lee “El Gringuito” and Nohelia travel around the country performing and teaching Latin dancing. They have taught more people to dance Bachata in the U.S. then anyone in the World, teaching over 100,000 students in 47 States. They also started the world’s largest Bachata Meet Up (BachataMeetUp.com) promoting Bachata Events and music, hoping to spread the culture of this amazing dance. Recently, nominated as Dance Instructors of the Year and APCA Novelty Act of the Year, they have been seen on America’s Got Talent, Ambush Makeover, FOX, NBC, ABC, Telemundo and Univision.
